Meet K Kamalathal, who is over 82 years old from Tamil Nadu has been selling Idli Sambhar with chutney at ₹1, for almost 30 years now.
But it was just recently that she got noticed for her selfless work. It was when Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra tweeted about her and said I would like to invest in her business, he also offered her LPG Stove.
In fact, HP Gas and Bharat Gas had already issued LPG connection to Kamalathal. Mahindra thanked BPCL and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for this noble act.
After Mahindra's tweet, many businessmen have been trying to get in touch with her. District Collector Rajamani honoured her at the district collector camp. Kamalathal informed Rajamani about her house which is in a dilapidated condition, he allocated her a house under the govt house building scheme.
Kamalathal lives in Vadivelampalayam a village near Perur in Tamil Nadu.
As per Kamalathal, she sells Idlis at just ₹1, so that the wage workers can start their day on a full stomach and can earn well for their families. She believes that her business is meant for needy, she says most of the customers coming to her idli shop are labourers or wage workers.
Kamalathal sells over 1000 idlis per day.
For Kamalathal, 82 is just a number, she is still athletic, she took part in a 100-meter race organized in her village during Pongal 2019.
She is Amazing and true noblewomen. Namaste India salutes her humble gesture and sends her the warmest Namaste.

One of those humbling stories that make you wonder if everything you do is even a fraction as impactful as the work of people like Kamalathal. I notice she still uses a wood-burning stove. If anyone knows her I’d be happy to ‘invest’ in her business & buy her an LPG fueled stove. pic.twitter.com/Yve21nJg47— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) September 10, 2019
