  • 2019 - With All Nippon Airways (ANA) launch of a direct flight between Tokyo to Chennai, Chennai became the first South Indian city to get direct connectivity to Japan. Overall Chennai became the 3rd city in India to have direct flight connectivity between India and Japan after Delhi and Mumbai.

  • 2019 - 1985-batch Indian Police Service Officer Anup Kumar Singh was appointed as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) on October 28 2019.

  • 1958 - Ashok Chavan, Indian businessman and politician, 16th Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

  • 1867 - Sister Nivedita or (Bhagini Nivedita), was an Irish-Indian social worker, author & educationist. In 2017, the house of Sister Nibedita in Bagbazar, Kolkata, was renovated by the West Bengal Govt and handed over to Ramakrishna Mission. 'Roy Villa' in Darjeeling, where Sister Nivedita breathed her last, was handed over to Ramakrishna Mission in 2014. In 2017, Mamata Banerjee unveiled a Heritage Blue Plaque at Sister Nivedita's home in London. (died on 13th October 1911).
