- 1948 - Soon after Mahatma Gandhi was killed by Nathuram Godse on 30th January 1948, the RSS was banned on February 4, 1948, for the first time. The Govt at the time released a statement on the ban saying: "The ban was being imposed to "root out the forces of hate and violence" at work in the country. The ban was lifted after a year, on July 11 1949.
- 1945 – World War II: The British Indian Army and Imperial Japanese Army begin a series of battles known as the Battle of Pokoku and Irrawaddy River operations.
